DIY Colored Pencils & Gel Pens Compartment Box

Did you receive more colored pencils and gel pens to add to your adult coloring supplies? That's great, but are you wondering where you're going to store them? Our Ben Franklin Crafts store in Monroe, WA has unfinished multi-compartment wood boxes that are perfect for pen storage!

The boxes are 11" x 8" x 3" with a 5 compartment tray, and 3 compartments below that tray. That gives you lots of room to categorize your pens & pencils.

The fun part is that you can decorate it any way you want. You can paint it. You can glue (using Mod Podge) decorative paper to it. And you can apply self-adhesive vinyl shapes and quotes to it.

The "splattered" box was so much fun to do! Just paint the entire box and trays white with acrylic paint. Let it dry. Then get all your favorite paint colors out and start splattering! To splatter, use a brush with stiff and sturdy bristles (even an old toothbrush would work). Use your brush at a downward angle so the bristles are pointed toward the ground. With your opposite hand, run your fingers along the edge of the brush. Go slowly and pull the bristle back so that they launch paint from the brush onto your project. (Visit Cafty's website for more "splatter" techniques: CLICK HERE) Let your box dry completly before putting your pens and pencils in it.
